Our Family Legacy
The freedom of being a family business is that we follow our system of values, not those of shareholders. These values are shared with our business partners and our relationships are the cornerstone of all that we do. For three generations, we have worked hand-in-hand with hairdressers and we take great pride in our mutual success together.
European Beginnings
The La Biosthetique brand began in Paris, just after World War II, when the biochemist and our founder, Marcel Contier discovered a remedy for his baby’s cradle cap. This first product, still on shelves today, unknowingly preceded 75 more years of product innovation expanding from scalp care to hair care, to colour and skincare, and finally to make up. Marcel Contier eventually sold the brand to the Weisser family who now run operations from the Black Forest in Germany. Today, there are over 12,000 La Biosthetique salons, and while our manufacturing (or, brawn) resides in Germany, our brand (or, heart) still lives in Paris.
Australia’s Roots
La Biosthetique Australia and New Zealand distributor Robert Aubin grew up setting women’s perms in his mother’s salon. He too became a hairdresser and eventually emigrated from upstate New York, to Sydney, bringing with him the now well-known brand Pivot Point. Since, and for over fifty years, Robert and his son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Karen, have distributed well-regarded brands including Pivot Point, Great Lengths, La Biosthetique, and Unwritten tech platform. All professional brands, the Aubin family continues to regard the hairdressers as core to their business.
Industry Loyal
We believe in honouring our relationship with hairdressing professionals by not undercutting them and offering our products at discounted rates. Hence, we refuse to sell our products to online discounters. Because of the prescriptive nature of our ranges, we additionally feel they are best delivered through trained professionals.
Our Operations
Our business runs across New Zealand and Australia with national coverage for sales and education, as well as Sydney and Perth based warehousing. Our staff are committed, friendly and knowledgeable (and fun- a lot of them are hairdressers!) Many of them, like our clients, have been with us for a decade or more and we mutually enjoy seeing a familiar face that does not chop and change. Here, no one is a number and we work hard to give exemplary service to each clients.
